Performances:
Ram Charan delivers a charismatic and impressive performance, his best performance since Rangasthalam. His role of an honest bureaucrat is full of intensity and vulnerability. S.J. Suryah plays a brilliant character, infusing menace and dark humour into the villain. Kiara Advani, though limited by the script, gives a lovely presence.
Direction and Screenplay:
S. Shankar has brought out his typical grand style with huge sets, sweeping camera work and thematic ambition. However, the screenplay seems uneven – while it starts off strong, the middle part slows down with predictable plot twists. The original cut reportedly ran over 7 hours, and though it was shortened to 2 hours 45 minutes, the pacing issues remain.

Technical Aspects:

The cinematography by Thiru is top notch, reflecting the grandeur of Shankar’s vision.

Thaman S’s music is pulsating, especially in the rally theme, though some of the songs seem forced.

The editing by Shameer Muhammed has been a subject of controversy, with the editor himself describing the process as “terrible”, which is evident in the awkward flow of the story.

Theme:
The film tackles political corruption, idealism of youth and systemic reform. However, its treatment of these themes seems superficial at times, lacking the emotional depth of Shankar’s previous works such as Indian or Mudhalvan.
